Brooks: Week 4

Brooks is now almost 4 weeks old…one month…can you believe it??? Time is flying by and our little man is growing up before our very eyes. Everyday is a new adventure in parenting and poor Brooks is the brunt of our ignorance and eureka moments!

He is seriously growing before our very eyes. We went to the pediatrician last Friday and Brooks is already almost 10 pounds!!!! That is amazing!!! He is also 21 and ½ inches long and that puts him in the 75th percentile for both categories. The doctor kept saying that he is a “big boy” and that he is just going to continue to grow like a weed…he said that he expects Brooks to be at least 14-15 pounds at his 2 month visit next month! Yikes!!! He said that everything else looked good with him and that he is a super healthy and happy baby…I have to agree!

We are still trying to get all of us on a schedule…right now we are still functioning on a routine but no set schedule. He continues to do great with his eating and sleeping…he will even go 4-5 hours at night now between feedings which is GREAT for mommy! Last night was wonderful…he ate at 11:30 and was sleeping by 12:30. He didn’t wake up to eat again until 3:30…that is AWESOME!!!! He is such a good boy letting his mamma sleep 3 straight hours…it felt like a full night of sleep to me!

This weekend was a rough one for all of us. Brooks had quite a “spell” and we had NO idea what was wrong with him. He was pretty much inconsolable when he was awake. We finally figured it must be tummy troubles and after some trial and error we discovered that Gripe Water is Brooks’ new best friend. The stuff is a miracle! Ever since then Brooks has been back to his angelic ways. He is a great baby during the day now. He is pretty consistent with a “eating, awake-time, and nap time” routine. He is so cute during his “awake-time”…for the most part he will sit in his bouncy seat and stare into the wild blue yonder either that or he enjoys some “tummy-time”. (He LOVES to look at the cool painting that hangs over his bed...thanks Audrey!) Our little booger is so strong already…he will lift himself up and arch his back and once or twice he has almost involuntarily rolled himself over from his front to his back! There is no leaving him unattended on the couch or bed…he just might scooch or roll off!

Brooks also had a short list of “firsts” again this past week. He went to church for the first time on Sunday…he got all dressed up in his Sunday best and of course he looked SUPER cute. He was really good at church but the service time was the same as his “lunch time” so he and mommy spent most of the service in the nursing room. It was quite funny because Brooks was the only boy baby in the nursing room along with two little girls…Brooks is all boy let me tell you. He is such a little piggy when he eats and compared to the little girls he really sounds like a little oinker! (He would give Hustle a run for his money let me tell you!) He even burps like a man! You would have never known that there were two other babies nursing in the same room…Brooks was so loud and that the other two moms were laughing at all of his smacking and belching! Ahhh…boys! Brooks also got to go see daddy at work for the first time this week. On Monday, we walked over to Mark’s office and we all ate lunch together…Brooks loved it and he can’t wait to be big enough to go to the construction site next…lots of tractors and dirt to play with there! Brooks also got to go to college for the first time today! He went with his mommy and PG to visit mommy’s class at UCF. He slept through the whole experience and let’s just hope it will be his ONLY college class that he will sleep through!

Well things are changing daily and I don’t think we can take enough pictures to documents them all. We are so blessed with such a great baby and we hope and pray that he continues to be happy and healthy. Before too long Brooks will be laughing and smiling at us and soon he will be sitting up and not long after that he will be crawling! Times flies all to fast these days…I am just glad that we are here and able to soak up every moment with our precious baby.
