We are now 10 weeks pregnant and it is starting to sink in that we are going to have ANOTHER baby! It's taken a while for the reality to set in but I think it is because I've felt really good so far and have not had any real "side effects" of early pregnancy. Thank the Lord!!! I am sure that it is just me but I can already tell a difference in my belly. I can best explain it that it feels like I ate too much pizza and drank too much beer and that my pants aren't fitting the same as they used to! :) But so far I have not gained any weight and I am still able to fit in last years summer clothes (but just barely!)
Though the baby is barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, it now completed the most critical portion of its development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in the body rapidly grow and mature.
The baby is swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including the kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout the pregnancy.
If you could take a peek inside my womb (that's kind of a gross thought!), you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin. In other developments: The baby's limbs can bend now. Hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over the heart, and the feet may be long enough to meet in front of the body. The outline of the spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from the spinal cord. Our baby's forehead temporarily bulges with the developing brain and sits very high on the head, which measures half the length of the body. From crown to rump, our baby is about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, the baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches!
So other than growing a baby, what have we been up to? I had a great Mother's Day last week. Mark treated me, my mom and his mom to a special day of cooking and pampering! He started off by making us all breakfast before church...his pancakes were to die for! He picked us up a light lunch after church and then the grand finale of the day was an amazing BBQ cookout! He held nothing back, we had ribs, steak, corn on the cob, and fresh green beans! Yummy! Our friends Ny, Chris and Ella joined us for dinner and we had a great time hanging out and enjoying the beautiful weather! Mark even got all of us flowers and a sweet card! He is such an amazing husband, son and son-in-law!
Here are a few pics of us enjoying the day together...Brooks just LOVED spending time with ALL of his favorite women!
Since the beginning of May we have had some really warm weather...I'd go almost as far as to call it summer weather! It's been getting up into the 90's and so I decided it was time to break out the pool for the back yard! Brooks has had the best time in that crazy thing! The water out of the hose is still pretty chilly so I am a really nice mommy and fill the pool half way up with hot tap water! I know...I am such a sucker! And of course it wouldn't be pool time without popsicles! Brooks can't get enough of them! Purple is his ultimate favorite! :) Here are some pictures of us spending a sunny afternoon in the backyard with some of our favorite neighbors, Will and Evelyn!
Wow! That's cold!!!!!
I think he is wearing as much as he is eating! :)
Now when we are home by ourselves, Brooks goes skinny dipping! We have a super private backyard and he just loves being in the nude! What boy doesn't!!??!!
He will probably kill me when we gets older and see these pictures! But who can resist taking a snap shot of that cute little bottom!?!?!
As much as Brooks loves to go commando, he is a TOTAL gentleman when he has female company! Here he is on another day playing in the backyard with Ella...they loved going back and forth between the mud and the pool!
When we are not spending time outside, Brooks loves to help me in the kitchen. He thinks it's so much fun to eat his snacks out of the mixing bowls! Here he is wearing one of the bowls...what a silly goose!
Brooks also loves to go bike riding in our neighborhood. Most afternoons we gear up in his special "Tractors" helmet and go riding all around...sometimes we even stop by the Sno-Cone Shack and get a nice treat to cool us off on those hot afternoons!
Brooks is becoming quite the little foodie these days! He loves to eat and we are so thankful for a non-picky eater! He will pretty much eat anything that we do. He loves anything grilled, steak, pork chops, chicken, he will eat all sorts of vegetables, green beans, sweet potatoes, black eyed peas, carrots, corn on the cob, tomatoes, you name it, he'll eat it! He devourers mushrooms and he is so cute and calls them mushies! Here he is eating some homemade pizza that is topped with his favorite "mushies"! Yum!
We had a nice visit from Mark's dad this past weekend. Brooks had a good time spending some guy time with his daddy and Pops. We all got to go to the UCF baseball game Friday night and then the guys got to spend all Saturday morning together getting breakfast and going to Bass Pro Shop! What a man thing to do! Here he is eating a snack and watching the Magic game with Pops.
